BC takes down Brown for second straight year to improve to 2-1
PROVIDENCE, RI — The Eagles improved to 2-1 on Tuesday night, taking down Brown in a 4-3 thriller behind singles wins from Marice Aguiar, Laura Lopez, Sophia Edwards, and Seren Agar.
"Great college match tonight. Big crowd, lots of energy and excitement," said Head Coach Nigel Bentley. "We responded very well and were able to stay calm and played strong tennis in singles."
Brown took the doubles point to take an early 1-0 lead, as Hailey Wilcox and Seren Agar, who are still undefeated as a pair, were up 5-2 in their match before Brown clinched the point.
Marice Aguiar continued to dominate at No. 1 singles, winning in straight sets to tie the match 1-1. Through three matches, Aguiar has not lost a single set at the top singles position.
After Brown went back up 2-1, Laura Lopez and Sophia Edwards strung together two singles wins at the No. 2 and No. 3 positions, putting BC back up. Brown tied it back up at 3-3, before freshman Seren Agar improved to a combined 5-0 in dual match play, winning her singles match in a straight-set tiebreak 7-5, 7-6 (7-5) to clinch the win for the Eagles.
