Eagles will look for sixth straight spring opener victory on Saturday
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. -- The Boston College Women's Tennis team will begin their spring season tomorrow afternoon, hosting Army at the home facility in Weymouth, Massachusetts at 5:00.
The Eagles are coming off a strong fall campaign, with their top two doubles teams earning spots in the Super Regionals Tournament, and a pair of singles players advancing to the second round at Super Regionals.
Laura Lopez, who was named the 2022 Northeast Women's Most Improved Senior, is back for her graduate season, and will rejoin Marice Aguiar in doubles, where the elite duo has garnered national recognition. After finishing last spring ranked No. 32 in Division One by ITA, the Eagles' No. 1 doubles team went 6-3 this fall, including a semifinal run at Super Regionals, a second-place finish at the ITHF Women's College Invitational, and a 1-1 record at the All-American Doubles Championships, becoming the first BC women's doubles team to advance to the second round of the All-American Main Doubles Draw.
Marice Aguiar will return as a force in No. 1 singles as well, after earning finalist honors at the fall Super Regional Singles Tournament, going 4-1 and eventually losing to current the No. 4 Daria Frayman from Princeton in a third-set tiebreaker.
Hailey Wilcox and Sophia Edwards will return in doubles, as the duo also qualified for Super Regionals in the fall. Muskan Mahajan and Stephanie Sanchez will also return from last year's team, which advanced to the second round at the ACC Tournament.
Seren Agar and Natalie Eordekian comprise this year's freshmen class, as both got experience in singles and doubles during the fall slate.
The Eagles most recently played Army two years ago, winning 7-0 in February 2021. Marice Aguiar and Laura Lopez were victorious in doubles, and both earned straight-set singles wins as well. Sophia Edwards also won her singles match in straight sets.
