
Four Eagles Named to U.S. Roster for World Championships

Cayla Barnes, Hannah Bilka, Alex Carpenter ’16 and Megan Keller ’19 will skate the Women's Worlds, while Kelly Browne and Abigail Levy were named the Collegiate Select Team.
BUFFALO, N.Y. – Four Boston College Eagles have been named to the U.S. National Team roster that will compete at the 2022 International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) Women's World Championships Aug. 25-Sept. 4 in Herning and Frederikshavn, Denmark. Additionally, two Eagles will skate for the U.S. Collegiate Women's Select Team in a three-game series against Canada Aug. 17-20.

Cayla Barnes, Hannah Bilka, Alex Carpenter '16 and Megan Keller '19 will look to help the U.S. capture its 10th gold medal at the World Championships. Additionally, Kelly Browne and Abigail Levy will play in the three-game series against Canada's National Women's Development Team. All six players were named to their respective squads after participating in the USA Hockey Women's National Festival in Buffalo, N.Y. last week.

All U.S. games at the tournament will be aired live in the U.S. on NHL Network.

Bilka will be making her senior national team debut. Barnes, Carpenter and Keller were all members of the U.S. Women's National Team that won a silver medal at the 2022 Winter Olympic Games in Beijing, China and were also a part of the team that won a silver medal at last year's World Championships in August 2021. At the World Championships, Carpenter has been a member of five gold-medal winning squads and Keller four. In additiona to her silver medal at the 2021 Worlds, Barnes captured her first gold in what was her World Championships debut at the 2019 tournament.

The 2022 World Championships will begin on Aug. 25, with the gold medal game taking place on Sept. 4. The U.S. has captured the top prize a total of nine times (2005, 2008, 2009, 2011, 2013, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2019), including eight of the last 10 tournaments. Levy and Browne will travel to Calgary to face Canada in a three-game series with the Collegiate Select Team. Additionally, alumnae Lee-J Mirasolo '08 will serve as an assistant coach of the team.
The U.S. Collegiate Women's Select Team is normally referenced as the U.S. Under-22 Women's Select Team, but due to not playing the past two years, players with collegiate eligibility were able to make the team.Â
