Norden brings 12 years of experience at the collegiate and academy level to the Heights
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Alex Norden has been hired as The James R. Maher Head Ski Coach to lead the Boston College men's and women's skiing program.
Â
Norden comes to the Heights after two years as the head women's alpine ski coach at Gould Academy in Bethel, Maine and four seasons as the head alpine ski coach at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island.
Â
"We're very excited to welcome Alex Norden to the Boston College Athletics family," said William V. Campbell Director of Athletics Blake James. "With her extensive experience at both the collegiate and academy level, Alex has all the qualities necessary to connect with and positively impact our student-athletes. We firmly believe she will lead our BC ski program to an unprecedented level of competitive success."
Â
"I would like to thank Jamie DiLoreto and the rest of the search committee for presenting me the opportunity to lead this already established ski program," said Norden. "I'm excited to join the BC Eagles family, and honored to work at a phenomenal institution with passionate student-athletes. The young men and women on this team are very bright and driven. This program overall has a ton of potential, and I'm enthused to roll up my sleeves alongside these athletes and coaches and get to work."
Â
Norden was a two-time USCSA MacConnell Division Coach of the Year and coached five USCSA All-Americans during her time at Brown from 2016-20. She also served as the Board Chair and Treasurer of the MacConnell Division, scheduling all division races and maintaining the annual budget.
Â
Prior to Brown, Norden was the head alpine ski coach at New England College, where she reinstated the program to varsity status in 2016. She also spent three years as the graduate assistant and strength and conditioning coach for the alpine ski team at St. Lawrence University, where she earned her master's degree in education leadership.
Â
Norden was a four-year member of the University of New Hampshire alpine ski team, serving as captain in 2009 and earning NCAA All-Academic honors. She also competed with the UNH track & field team and graduated in 2010 with a bachelor's degree in psychology and a minor in sports studies.
Â
After graduation, she served two years as the U19 women's ski coach at Killington Mountain School in Vermont.
