Gauthier matches the highest draft pick in program history with Bill Guerin and Noah Hanifin
MONTREAL – Boston College men's hockey incoming freshman Cutter Gauthier matched the highest NHL draft pick in school history on Thursday night at the Bell Centre. Gauthier was selected with the fifth overall pick by the Philadelphia Flyers in the 2022 NHL Draft, becoming the 22nd first round pick in program history.
Gauthier joins two other Eagles who were selected fifth overall in the NHL Draft: Noah Hanifin (2015) and Bill Guerin (1989). The 6'3 left-shot forward became the fourth top-10 first round pick in school history along with Hanifin, Guerin and Brian Leetch (ninth in 1986).
In 54 games for the U.S. National Team Development Program's Under-18 squad last season, Gauthier scored 34 goals and added 31 assists for 65 points. He registered three goals and six assists for nine points in six games for Team USA's silver medal winning squad at the IIHF Under-18 World Championships.
Born in Sweden, Gauthier is the fourth first round pick for the Eagles in the last four years, joining 2019 first rounders Matt Boldy, Spencer Knight and Alex Newhook.
