Abby Newhook Invited to Hockey Canada Selection Camp

Sophomore Abby Newhook has been invited to Hockey Canada’s National Women’s Program selection camp.
CALGARY, Alberta – Boston College sophomore Abby Newhook has been invited to Hockey Canada's National Women's Program selection camp, as announced today by Hockey Canada.
The 11-day camp, which will run Aug. 3-14 at WinSport's Canada Olympic Park in Calgary, brings together athletes vying for spots on Canada's National Women's Team, Canada's National Women's Development Team and the Under-18 squad. The National Team and Development hopefuls will be split into four teams for practices, intrasquad games and off-ice sessions.
The camp will be used to select a roster to compete in the upcoming IIHF Women's World Championship in Herning, Denmark along with a Development Team and a U-18 team that will take part in a pair of three-game series against the United States in Calgary.
Newhook was named the 2021-22 Hockey East Pro Ambitions Rookie of the Year and was a finalist for National Rookie of the Year after leading all Hockey East first-year players in overall points (32), goals (18) and assists (15). Her overall 0.94 points per game average led all Hockey East rookies and tied for second nationally. She tallied 11 multi-point games on the year and put together an eight-game goal scoring streak and a nine-game point streak. The St. John's, Newfoundland native's six game-winning goals on the year tied for second in the nation and led all first-year players. Additionally, Newhook earned three Hockey East Pro Ambition Rookie of the Month accolades and she also picked up six Rookie of the Week honors over the course of the 2021-22 season.
Newhook attended the BFL National Women's Under-18 Team Summer Development Camp last summer. The forward skated for Team Atlantic at the 2019 National Women's Under-18 Championship and was also invited to the 2020 Hockey Canada National Women's Under-18 Team virtual summer camp.
