Cummings Qualifies for 122nd U.S. Amateur

Wins his qualifying round (-4); becomes the fourth BC golfer to play in the U.S. Amateur in the last four years
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. — Nick Cummings won his sectional qualifier and will compete in the 122nd U.S. Amateur, held August 15-21 at the the Ridgewood and Arcola Country Clubs in Paramus, N.J.
Cummings was 4-under par for the 36 holes of play at the Ledges G.C. in York, Maine on July 18. The Weston, Mass. product carded back-to-back rounds of 70 to finish as medalist. Through the two rounds, Cummings carded six birdies, an eagle, and 25 pars.
This past May, Cummings advanced to the final qualifying round of the U.S. Open, held at The Country Club in Brookline.
He becomes the fourth BC golfer in the past four years to earn a spot in the top amateur golf tournament in the world. Last year, current Eagles Ben Hong and 2020 graduate Christian Cavaliere competed at the 121st U.S. Amateur at the Oakmont C.C. in Oakmont, Pa. Cavaliere also played in the 119th U.S. Amateur in 2018 at Pebble Beach and Spyglass Hill in Northern California. Matt Naumec competed in the 120th U.S. Amateur at Pinehurst No. 2 in Pinehurst, N.C.
The 122nd U.S. Amateur will feature two rounds of stroke play on Aug. 15-16, followed by match play format with the top 64 players starting on Aug. 17. Â
The U.S. Amateur Championship is the oldest USGA championship and has enjoyed an illustrious history of great champions, including Bob Jones, Phil Mickelson, Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer and Tiger Woods. In 1930, Jones completed his Grand Slam by winning the U.S. Amateur at Merion Golf Club in Ardmore, Pa. Woods, in 1996, became the first to win three consecutive Amateur titles.
