CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Forward Jack McBain has been named a 2021-22 Division I All-Star by the New England Hockey Writers Association. Classmate Marc McLaughlin was selected as the Frank Jones Award winner as the Top Defensive Forward in New England.
Following his senior season, McBain was honored as a Second Team All-American by the American Hockey Coaches Association (AHCA). Despite missing 14 games due to injury and his selection to Team Canada for the Olympics, McBain ranked fourth in Hockey East with a career-best 19 goals and led the league in points per game (1.37).
McBain was tied for third in Hockey East in both game-winning goals (4) and power play goals (6). The forward more than tripled his previous career-high in goals (6) and put together a career-high seven-game goal scoring streak that was finally snapped in the Hockey East Quarterfinal.
Originally drafted in the third round by the Minnesota Wild, McBain signed an NHL entry level contract with the Arizona Coyotes on March 23 and scored his first NHL goal on Tuesday night in Minnesota.
McLaughlin finished his four-year NCAA career with a plus-30 rating, including a plus-26 over his final two seasons. A two-year captain, McLaughlin ranked second in Hockey East and sixth nationally in goals per game this past season with a career-high and team-high 21 goals. He was 11th in the country with a team-high seven power play goals.
After netting nine goals in the first 73 games of his career, McLaughlin exploded for 31 goals in his final 56 contests. The North Billerica native became BC's first 20-goal scorer since former captain David Cotton three seasons ago.
He signed with the Boston Bruins following the season and scored in his NHL debut on March 31 at TD Garden against the New Jersey Devils. McLaughlin became just the fifth Massachusetts native to score in his first NHL game for the Bruins.
