Top ranked UNC on tap for the Eagles on Sunday
DURHAM, N.C. -- The Eagles moved to .500 on the year after a 6-1 loss to the No. 5 Duke Blue Devils on Friday night in Durham. The doubles duo of Laura Lopez and Marice Aguiar, who earned a No. 75 ranking in the latest ITA release, jumped out to a 4-2 lead in their doubles match before it ended early as the Blue Devils captured the point on the other two courts. Natasha Irani continued her strong spring with a win over No. 84 Emma Jackson, taking the first set 6-1 and battling back to clinch it 1-0 (10-5) in the third set.Â
"Credit to Duke. They are obviously a very strong team," said head coach Nigel Bentley. "It seemed we were playing defense a lot and couldn't convert on most of the no-ad points. But we competed hard and I'm proud of our team's effort."Â
The Eagles will face another test this Sunday in a road match against the No. 1 UNC Tar Heels at 1:00.Â
