Ferrari Places 27th in Giant Slalom in NCAA Championship Debut
March 12, 2022 | Skiing
PARK CITY, Utah – Boston College freshman Chiara Maria Ferrari earned 27th place in the giant slalom in her NCAA Skiing Championship debut this week at Park City Mountain Resort.Â
Ferrari was 24th following her first run in the GS, which was postponed from Wednesday to Thursday due to heavy snowfall. The rookie was 28th in the second run and finished with a total time of 2:08.27.
"It was an amazing week of racing," said head coach Chuck Carmone. "Each year the level of competition continues to climb. We had nearly a dozen Olympians, skiers of national teams from throughout Europe and one women had 20 World Cup starts, yet there was Chiara battling them turn for turn. She got banged up at our last Carnival in a crash at Cannon and was fighting through a lot of pain all week. She's a warrior but it's a brutal field to compete in when you aren't 100%. She never makes excuses."
Ferrari did not finish her opening run in the slalom on Friday on a steep section of the course.Â
A native of La Spezia, Italy, Ferrari became the fourth female ever to compete for the Eagles at the NCAA Championships, joining Parker Biele, Haley Castner and Lauren Geary. She is only the third Eagle, male or female, to earn a bid during a season in which all EISA schools competed.
Ferrari burst onto the scene in EISA competition this season, finishing 16th in the overall giant slalom rankings. She earned a top-10 in her EISA debut in the GS at the Colby Carnival, helping the BC women's squad place fifth overall at Sugarloaf.
At the Middlebury Carnival, Ferrari finished seventh overall in the GS for her best finish of the season and took 12th in an additional GS which was a makeup for the postponed UVM Carnival.
