Eagles Split Road Trip With First Ever Program Win At Virginia Tech

Stephanie Sanchez and Plobrung Plipuech log first career ACC wins in victory
BLACKSBURG, Va. -- The Eagles finished off their road trip with their first road win at Virginia Tech in program history to go 1-1 on the weekend after falling to Virginia on Friday. In the 6-1 win over the Hokies this afternoon, Plobrung Plipuech and Stephanie Sanchez picked up their first ACC wins of their careers as the Eagles gained their first conference victory.Â
"ACC women's tennis is such a high level and earning a road win in this league is so tough. Virginia Tech is very well coached and they compete hard….Im very proud of our team today," said head coach Nigel Bentley. "We played really well. I thought the doubles point was huge. We were able to secure the point with some great shots at the end and we carried that momentum into singles. This was a total team win and everyone contributed. Happy for Plobrung and Stephanie who earned their first ACC wins. Looking forward to a strong week of practice and more challenges ahead."
The Eagles took the doubles point with wins from Sanchez and Plipuech, and Sophia Edwards and Hailey Wilcox. Plipuech, Natasha Irani, and Marice Aguiar all took their singles matches in straight sets en route to a 6-1 Eagles win.Â
On Friday night, Virginia defeated the Eagles 6-1, with Natasha Irani taking her singles match 6-1, 2-6, 1-0 (10-6) to go undefeated on the weekend.Â
