CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Boston College lacrosse team used a dominating second half to push past No. 13 Virginia, 22-15, on Wednesday afternoon.
The Eagles are 4-0 to start the season, including a 3-0 mark against ranked opponents. BC is 1-0 to start ACC play, while UVA is 2-3 and 0-1 in league action.
It's the first time since the 2017 season BC has scored 20 or more goals in three straight games.
Charlotte North scored six goals to lead four Eagles that earned hat tricks and six players who saw the board. Caitlynn Mossman fired in a personal-high five scores, while Jenn Medjid and Kayla Martello scored four times.
Cassidy Weeks tallied two goals, and Belle Smith posted one score with a team-best three assists.
It was an impressive second half in which the Eagles outscored UVA, 13-5, after trailing 10-9 going into the break.
Starting the run was Mossman to begin the half, tying up the game 10-apiece before North gave the Eagles an 11-10 edge. The hosts responded by tying up the contest thanks to a Rachel Clark score with 9:15 left in the period.
It was all BC from there, as the Eagles ended the frame on a 4-0 run to go into the fourth with a commanding 15-11 advantage.
UVA scored to begin the fourth period, slicing the gap to one. However, goals by Medjid, North, and four straight by Martello and Mossman stretched the lead to eight. BC pulled away for its sixth straight win in the series.
Three different Eagles scored in the first six minutes of the game to go up, 3-0. UVA went on a 4-0 run of its own to take a 4-3 lead. The Cavaliers held a 6-4 lead until Weeks found the back of the net with nine seconds left in the period to cut the deficit to one.
Both teams traded goals in the second frame before UVA scored two consecutive times to hold a 10-9 lead. Medjid scored before the end of the half, giving the Hoos a 10-9 halftime lead.
