
No. 1 BC Throttles No. 24 UMass in Amherst

AMHERST, Mass. - The Boston College lacrosse team flexed its muscle by throttling No. 24 Umass, 22-5, on Wednesday afternoon.
The Eagles have outscored their first two opponents, who were picked to win their respective conferences, by a combined score of 40-14. BC is now 2-0 and UMass falls to 1-1.Â
Nine different Eagles scored on the afternoon with three recording hat tricks. Charlotte North scored seven goals for the second time in as many games.Â
Jenn Medjid netted five goals, while Kayla Martello earned three goals. Belle Smith recorded a multiple-score effort for the second straight game with two goals.Â
Both teams traded scores for the first 4:04 of the contest. UMass held a 2-1 lead before the Eagles took control by going on a 5-0 run at the end of the frame to take a 6-2 lead going into the second. North and Medjid scored four times during the surge.Â
BC dominated the rest of the game, where it outscored UMass by 16-3 over the final three periods. The Eagles went into the break with a 13-3 advantage after Smith scored off a Caitlynn Mossman assist with 16 seconds left.Â
The Eagles continued their hot scoring as they reached the 20-goal mark early in the fourth quarter when Summer Agostino registered her first collegiate point.Â
BC's defense allowed just two scores over the final 55:56 of the game after allowing two in the early goings of the game. Rachel Hall stopped four shots in the net, where she saw 33:33 of playing time. Emily English saw action the rest of the way.Â
Mallory Hasselbeck registered her first collegiate points with a score and an assist. Erin Walsh both scored for the first time collegiately, while Cassidy Weeks earned a goal and an assist. Annie Walsh joined her sister on the scoreboard as well.Â
Mossman (3 assists) and Hollie Schleicher (2 assists) recorded multiple helpers. Mckenna Davis earned an assist as well in the win.Â
Thirty-three of BC's 41 shots were on goal while outshooting UMass, 41-18.Â
The Eagles return to action on Saturday against Boston University at 12 p.m. in Fish Field House.Â
