Marice Aguiar Earns Finalist Honors in Super Regional Singles Tournament

Fall slate continues at Brown Invitational this weekend
NEW HAVEN, Conn. -- Marice Aguiar finished as the runner-up in the singles tournament at the Super Regional Championships over the weekend, winning four singles matches over three days to advance to the finals this morning. After dropping the first set, Aguiar won the second set 6-1, but fell in a third-set tiebreaker, 7-6(5) to Daria Frayman from Princeton.Â
Aguiar joined Laura Lopez to advance to the doubles semifinals, as the Eagles' No. 1 doubles team won their first two matches in straight sets before falling in a third set tiebreaker to a team from Temple.Â
Lopez cruised through the first two rounds of singles as well, dropping just three total games in two consecutive straight-set victories on Friday to advance to the quarterfinals. Princeton's Frayman eventually eliminated Lopez in the quarterfinals.Â
After qualifying for Super Regionals at Dartmouth last month, the doubles pairing of Hailey Wilcox and Sophia Edwards won four games in a Round of 16 defeat to a team from St. John's.Â
The Eagles will continue their fall action this weekend at the Brown Invitational.Â
