Boston College Takes Care of NU in Four Sets

Eagles dominate early in road win over Huskies.
BOSTON – The Boston College volleyball team rolled to a 3-1 win at Northeastern on Tuesday night. The Eagles remain unbeaten at 7-0, while the Huskies fell to 2-5.
BC claimed the match by scores of 25-19, 25-20, 15-25 and 26-24. After dominating the first two sets, BC was outhit .474 to .167 in the third as NU forced a fourth set. The fourth went back-and-forth with 15 ties and three lead changes before the Eagles netted the final two points in the win.
In the first, the Eagles trailed 17-14 before finishing on an 11-2 run to take the set. The run was ignited by graduates Amaka Chukwujekwu (Laurel, Md.) and Clare Naughton (Atlanta, Ga.), who combined for five points in the initial 5-0 run that put BC on top 19-17.
Naughton led all players with 20 kills, matching a career-high, on a .312 attack rate. She added 14 digs in the double-double effort. Chukwujekwu hit a dominant .500 with 12 kills to go with four blocks.
Boston College pulled away early in the second set with an 8-0 run to take a commanding 11-3 lead. Northeastern called timeout at 8-3 after junior middle blocker Gabby McCaa (Minneapolis, Minn.) teamed up on a combo block and followed with a kill for back-to-back BC points. Chukwujekwu put away the set on her fifth kill of the match.
Sophomore setter Sophia Lambros (Fullerton, Calif.) led the Eagle attack with 24 assists, while adding five digs. Freshman setter Jane Petrie (San Diego, Calif.) added 18 assists and seven digs. Defensively, McCaa totaled a team-high six blocks and sophomore libero Anna Murphy (Zionsville, Ind.) contributed a match-leading 21 digs.
The Eagles return to action this weekend at the St. John's Classic beginning Friday, Sept. 10 against Army West Point at 2 p.m. in Queens, N.Y.
