Eagles Open Fall Season with Successful Weekend at Harvard
September 19, 2021 | Women's Tennis
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Boston College women's tennis team opened the fall season at the Harvard Invitational this weekend. The Eagles played the Crimson on Saturday and Sunday in individual singles and doubles matches. Â
"It feels great to be competing again," said head coach Nigel Bentley. "With all the COVID restrictions on tournaments, many of our players are in much need of match play. I thought overall we did pretty well. Our conditioning and fitness was a positive and we played hard. It was nice to see our freshmen get their first taste of college tennis. We have a lot of hard work to do but we are all excited about the journey ahead."
Graduate student and captain Natasha Irani led the Eagles by winning both her singles matches against the Crimson, including a straight set victory over Iveta Daujotaite on Saturday.
Freshmen Muskan Mahajan and Stephanie Sanchez made their collegiate debuts for Boston College and both won their singles matches on Saturday.
After earning a national ranking as a pair in the spring, Laura Lopez and Marice Aguiar teamed up in doubles and won both their matches. Each player also posted a 6-3, 6-3 straight set singles victory over the weekend.Â
The Eagles return to action in two weeks at the Regional Championships hosted by Army.
