CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Graduate student Natasha Irani and senior Laura Lopez have been named captains of the Boston College women's tennis team for the 2021-22 season by head coach Nigel Bentley.
"Natasha and Laura will be terrific team captains. Our roster has had a big turnover and they are the perfect leaders to carry on our team culture," said Bentley. "They are student-athletes in every sense; they work very hard on the tennis courts and in the classroom. They are completely committed to our team and we all are very excited about the upcoming year."
Irani will serve as a captain for the second straight season after assuming a leadership role with Kylie Wilcox and Yufei Long last season. The Ontario native went 5-5 overall in singles play in the No. 3 and No. 4 slots as a senior and closed out the season with two consecutive singles victories. She registered four of her wins in ACC play over Syracuse, Virginia Tech, NC State and Wake Forest.
Lopez posted an 8-7 overall singles record while going 6-3 at home with six singles victories in ACC competition. She defeated No. 40 Chloe Beck of Duke in a third set tiebreaker at home as five of her eight victories came in third sets. The Barcelona native closed the season ranked 68th nationally in doubles with Marice Aguiar. The pair's best win came over No. 24 Diana Khodan and Maya Tahan of Miami.
Boston College welcomes freshmen Stephanie Sanchez and Muskan Mahajan to the 2021-22 roster along with Oregon graduate transfer Plobrung Plipuech.
