CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Incoming freshman defenseman Aidan Hreschuk was selected by the Carolina Hurricanes in the third round of the 2021 NHL Draft on Saturday.
Future forward Andre Gasseau was later taken by the Boston Bruins in the seventh round. Hreschuk and Gasseau are both products of the U.S. National Team Development Program.
It marks the 26th straight year that at least one Eagle has been drafted, tied with Michigan for the longest active streak in the nation and one shy of the all-time record held by Minnesota (1974-2000).
Hreschuk went off the board with the 94th overall pick in the draft to Carolina. The Long Beach, California native led all U.S. Under-18 Team defenseman last season with 37 points on six goals and 31 assists.
Hreschuk was an assistant captain for Team USA at the IIHF Under-18 World Championships and is currently competing at the 2021 World Junior Summer Showcase at USA Hockey Arena in Plymouth, Michigan.
The left-shot defenseman joins a Boston College defense corps that includes returners Jack St. Ivany, Drew Helleson, Marshall Warren, Eamon Powell and Mitch Andres, along with Bowling Green graduate transfer Justin Wells.
Gasseau was drafted 213th overall by the Bruins, joining rising sophomore Trevor Kuntar as a Boston draft pick. Gasseau scored 12 goals and posted 27 points in 42 games last season for the U.S. Under-18 Team.
The left-shot forward spent the 2019-20 season at Shattuck St. Mary's, amassing 33 goals and 29 assists for 62 points in 45 contests.
A native of Los Angeles, Gasseau is scheduled to attend Boston College beginning with the 2022-23 campaign.
