July 15, 2021 | Lacrosse
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - Senior attacker Charlotte North has been nominated for the NCAA Woman of the Year award. For 31 years, this program has honored the academic achievements, athletics excellence, community service and leadership of outstanding female college athletes.
A native of Dallas, North took home every major national award in women's lacrosse, being named the Tewaaraton Award winner, IWLCA Player of the Year and the Honda Award winner. She scored a NCAA record 102 goals this season, while adding 12 assists for 114 points. She also had the second-most draw controls in a single season at BC with 174.
Â
North was a consensus first-team All-American from Inside Lacrosse, USA Lacrosse Magazine and the IWLCA. During the NCAA Tournament, she set the record for goals in a single tournament with 31 and was named the tournament's Most Outstanding Player. This season she also set the BC and ACC record for goals in a single game, with 10 against Virginia Tech and BC record for goals in an NCAA Tournament game with eight, doing so against both Temple and Notre Dame. Her six goals in the NCAA Championship Game tied the record for goals in a title game and helped BC win its first-ever national title.
She was also voted the ACC's Female Athlete of the Year.
Next, conference offices will select their nominees for NCAA Woman of the Year. Each conference nominee will be notified by the NCAA, and all conference-round nominees will be announced on ncaa.org in August.Â
Conference nominations are forwarded to the NCAA Woman of the Year Selection Committee, which identifies the top 10 honorees in each of the three NCAA divisions. From those 30 honorees, the selection committee then determines the three finalists in each division for a total of nine finalists.
The Committee on Women's Athletics will select the 2021 NCAA Woman of the Year from the nine finalists. At an award ceremony Oct. 17 in Indianapolis, the Top 30 honorees will be celebrated, and the 2021 NCAA Woman of the Year will be named.
