NCAA Championships Day 3 Update

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. – The Boston College fencing team continued with the 2021 National Collegiate Men's and Women's Fencing Championships on Friday at the Bryce Jordan Center at Penn State, with the women taking to the strip for the first three rounds of competition.
Samantha Yeh, Gillian Lawlor, Katarina Hone, Laura Boden and Lucy Hanson got their round robins underway.

DAY 3 RECAP
- BC's competitors in women's epee, sabre and foil competed in the first three rounds of
-In sabre, Gillian Lawlor and Katarina Hone competed for the Eagles, with Lawlor sitting in 20th and Hone in 22nd after the first three rounds.
-Samantha Yeh won seven of her bouts to sit in 10th place in foil … Yeh had a touch differential of plus-two.
-In epee, Laura Boden and Lucy Hanson represented the Eagles … Boden finished 23rd and Hanson finished 24th.
-As a team, the Eagles sit in eighth place overall after three days of competition.

NCAA TOURNAMENT FORMAT
Fencers are competing in a round-robin format of five-touch bouts. After the round robin, the top-four finishers in each weapon will fence in semifinal 15-touch bouts, with winners fencing to determine first and second places, and non-advancing fencers being awarded a tie for third place.

An institution's place finish in the championships will be based on points earned by each individual. A team will be awarded one point for each victory by its student-athletes during round-robin competition.
