Irani and Lopez Post Singles Wins in 5-2 Defeat at No. 12 NC State

RALEIGH, N.C. – Natasha Irani and Laura Lopez won singles matches, but Boston College fell on the road to 12th-ranked NC State on Friday afternoon by a final score of 5-2.

The Eagles fell to 4-6 (2-6 ACC), while the Wolfpack improved to 10-3 (5-2 ACC).

Kylie Wilcox gave #23 Alana Smith all she could handle in No. 2 singles, but Smith edged the senior captain in a third set tiebreaker.
Irani and Lopez won their singles matchups in the No. 4 and No. 5 slots as Irani defeated Daniel 7-5 in a third set. Lopez took a third set superbreaker from Lexi Keberle 10-4 in the final match to finish.Â
Senior Maria Ross made her season debut in sixth singles, falling to Abigail Rencheli.
Boston College closes its ACC road trip on Sunday (March 21) with an 11 a.m. match against No. 29 Wake Forest.Â

"I thought we came out a little flat in doubles, but we responded in singles and played solid tennis against a very good team," said head coach Nigel Bentley. "Give NC State credit, they executed well on lots of the big points. Our team competed hard though and we are getting better."
NC State clinched the doubles point behind its two ranked doubles teams, #2 Anna Rogers/Alana Smith and #16 Jaeda Daniel/Adriana Reami.Â
