Miami Holds Off Boston College 5-2 in ACC Match

WEYMOUTH, Mass. – Boston College played a tight match with ACC rival Miami, but ultimately fell to the Hurricanes 5-2 on Sunday morning at the Weymouth Club.
BC dropped to 4-5 overall and 2-5 in ACC conference play, while Miami improved to 5-5 (3-3 ACC).
Miami grabbed an early 1-0 lead as Estela Perez-Somarri and Isabella Pfennig clinched the doubles point in the No. 1 matchup over BC's Yufei Long and Kylie Wilcox 6-3.
Four out of the six singles matches that followed went to three sets. Freshman Marice Aguiar defeated Daevenia Achong 6-3 in a third set to clinch an undefeated ACC weekend in singles and doubles. Her doubles partner Laura Lopez also won a third set 6-3 in No. 5 singles to beat Maya Tahan.
Wilcox faced Perez-Somarri, a former NCAA singles champion, in the No. 1 slot and played a competitive match before falling 6-4, 6-4. Natasha Irani won her first set against Florencia Urrutia but was edged in a third set superbreaker as the last match to finish.
Boston College hits the road next weekend to take on NC State (March 19) and Wake Forest (March 21).
