Eagles Host First-Ever EISA Carnival in Slalom at Proctor
March 01, 2021 | Skiing
Sophomore Will Kornya led the way with an eighth place finish
ANDOVER, N.H. – Boston College alpine skiing hosted its first-ever EISA carnival over the weekend at Proctor Academy in New Hampshire. The Eagles took third overall in the second women's slalom race, while placing fourth in the other three races.
"I think with the excitement of our results at Whiteface, we assumed we would do just as well on our home hill, but we just couldn't get two great runs in the same race," said head coach Chuck Carmone. "We saw a lot of top-10 runs in the race but no one that could do it twice. It was easily the deepest field in a ski race in the entire east for a slalom event we've seen all year. It was a great opportunity to host an EISA carnival. We can't thank Proctor Academy enough for putting on four high-quality races and allowing our racers a chance to finally have a home event."

Sophomore Will Kornya had the best finish of the event, placing eighth overall in the first men's slalom race on Sunday morning. Captains Chris Bertram and Trent Gutstein were 13th and 15th respectively in the opening race, while Spencer Wright finished 18th. Â
Â
In the second men's slalom race, the Eagles had five skiers finish in consecutive spots from 13th to 17th: Bertram, Zach Simmons, Ben Charleston, Kornya and Wright. Simmons had the seventh-fastest time in the first run, but the rookie did not finish his second run.Â
Â
The women began the carnival on Saturday with a pair of slalom races as freshmen Lauren Geary and Haley Castner led the way. Geary was 10th overall in both races, while Castner had 11th and 15th place showings.
Â
Senior Parker Biele, who made history winning an EISA giant slalom race earlier in the week at Whiteface, was 15th and 17th in her two slalom races at Proctor. Rookie Sam Naples also posted a pair of 20th place finishes, while senior Madeline Davis placed top-25 in both slaloms.

Boston College returns to action at the 2021 NCAA Championships, which will be hosted by UNH on March 10-13 at Cannon Mountain in Franconia.
