Junior Haley Dolan reaches Eagles' first final in 14 years.
GREENSBORO, N.C. -- The Boston College women's swimming and diving team competed at the ACC Championship this past week at the Greensboro Aquatics Center. Junior Haley Dolan clocked a 22.91 in the 50 yard freestyle on Thursday as she became the first Eagle individual to reach the finals since 2007.
Dolan bettered her time in the final; finishing 22nd in the field at 22.86. She became the first individual to score at the ACCs for BC since Amanda Bieler in the 2015 1650. Dolan also swam as part of the 200 free relay that finished ninth out of 12; racing with teammates Ali Kea, Katie Drumm and Sofia Zinis; setting a school record of 1:31.16.
"Our women's program [had] it's first scoring finalist since 2007," stated head coach Michael Stephens on Thursday night. "As the only non-scholarship program in the conference, we are incredibly proud to have Haley Dolan represent Boston College in the 50 free final. This milestone is particularly special in this year of adversity. Despite the many challenges of this season, our group has not lost momentum in our long-standing goal of elevating our program. Haley's performance this morning represents not only her own perseverance, but signifies the commitment our team members have to growing something bigger than themselves."
Senior Maura Grimes broke the school record in the 100 back at 54.50. She has been the BC record holder since her sophomore year.
In her first ACC competition, Livy Poulin, a transfer from Columbia, took 12th in the 1 meter dive with a score of 265.90; the highest finish in program history.
Virginia took home the title with a team score of 1486.
