No. 1 Eagles Edge Maine 4-2 in Back and Forth Affair

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Matt Boldy scored a pair of goals and top-ranked Boston College snapped a five-game losing skid against Maine with a 4-2 Hockey East victory on Friday night at Kelley Rink to open a weekend series.

The Eagles improved to 9-1-1 in their last 11 games and to 14-3-1 overall, while the Black Bears fell to 2-8-1. BC slightly increased its lead over BU for first place in the Hockey East standings according to the HEPI.

Boldy added to his team-leading point total (21) and led all players with six shots on goal. His opening tally came shorthanded, adding to BC's nation-leading total as a team this season (7).

Captain Marc McLaughlin posted his sixth multi-point performance of the season with a goal and an assist, giving him 20 points on the year. The junior was plus-2 on the night to lead the team and netted his team-best ninth goal.

A heavy power play drive off the crossbar from Alex Newhook midway through the third period proved to be the game-winner in the 130th all-time meeting in series history.

Spencer Knight collected his 13th win of the year between the pipes with 24 saves.

Boston College outshot Maine 32-26 and went 5-for-6 on the penalty kill, allowing a lone 5-on-3 goal in the third period.

2nd 1:25, BC (1-0) | Boldy gained the Maine zone along the left wing, spun to his backhand in the near circle, and whacked the puck high glove side to beat Matthew Thiessen.

2nd 3:10, Maine (1-1) | Knight kicked out an initial backhand attempt from AJ Drobot, but Tristan Poissant located the rebound in the slot and found the empty net to tie the game.

2nd 8:09, BC (2-1) | After picking off a pass behind the Maine net, Casey Carreau curled into the low slot and tried to find the bottom right corner, but McLaughlin cleaned up the rebound at the far post.

3rd 8:21, Maine (2-2) | During a two-man advantage, Adam Dawe slipped a pass into the left wing circle for Brad Morrissey, who quickly fired a shot through Knight's five-hole from just below the dot.

3rd 10:05, BC (3-2) | McLaughlin redirected a Jack St. Ivany pass to the top of the left circle for Newhook, who stepped into a drive that beat Thiessen high short side off the underside of the crossbar.

3rd 19:02, BC (4-2) Drew Helleson forced a turnover at the half wall in the Boston College zone and Boldy lofted the puck down ice into an empty net to seal the victory.
