Naughton Ties a Career-High with 21 Kills
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. -- Boston College volleyball beat University of Virginia in four sets on Friday night in Memorial Gym. The Eagles improve to 14-13, while the Cavaliers drop to 8-15.
The Cavaliers stopped a late BC rally in set one, winning 25-17. Set two was a constant back and forth with multiple lead changes, but BC prevailed 26-24. The Eagles carried that momentum into the third set, dominating UVA 25-17. Set four was a frenzy, as the two teams combined for 58 points, with the Eagles winning 30-28 to seal the victory.
Clare Naughton tied her career-high with a match-high 21 kills, her second straight match leading all players in kills. Izzy Clavenna had the second highest total kills for the Eagles with 14. Grace Penn had a match-high 31 assists. Defensively, Anna Murphy had 24 digs and Julia Haggerty had three blocks for the Eagles.
Virginia's scoring was led by Grace Turner and Alana Walker with 15 and 13 kills respectively. Walker also had a match-high eight blocks for the Cavaliers.
The Eagles travel to Pittsburgh to take on the Panthers on Sunday at 1 p.m. The match will be streamed on ACC Network.
