Virginia wins 2-0 over BC in ACC quarterfinals
SYRACUSE, N.Y. - No. 4 seeded Boston College fell to No. 5 seeded Virginia, 2-0, in the quarterfinals of the ACC Championship. Â
After an hour and a half delay due to wintry weather, the Cavaliers got on the board in the first quarter. UVA tacked on another goal in the second period, and took a 2-0 lead into halftime.
During the third quarter, the Eagles were awarded a penalty stroke. Sky Caron took the opportunity but was deflected by Virginia goaltender Tyler Kennedy.
Late in the fourth quarter, after Jaime Natale was issued a green card, BC pulled goalkeeper Jonna Kennedy out of the cage to even the numbers. In total, Kennedy spent 56:24 in net and made five saves for the Eagles.
Overall, the teams each attempted eight shots. UVA put seven on-goal to five for BC. Boston College attempted four penalty corners and Virginia attempted three.
The match leaves the Eagles with an overall record of 12-6 as they await the NCAA Field Hockey Championship selection show.
