Women's Basketball Announces 2022 Signing Class

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Boston College head coach  Joanna Bernabei-McNamee and the coaching staff announced the 2022 signing class on Wednesday.Â
The Eagles bring in four signees in Ally Carman (Barnegat, N.J.), Ava McGee (Washington, D.C.), Taina "T" Mair (Boston, Mass.), and Kayla Lezama (Boston, Mass.). The coaching staff signed two in-state natives and brought in commitments from New Jersey and Washington while inking three guards and a center.

"I am excited bout the addition of these four highly competitive players. Their athleticism, skill level, and high character will be a great fit with our culture and style of play. On the court, they each bring something different that adds depth, quickness, size, and versatility to the team. I love that they are talented and have outstanding work ethic both on the court and in the classroom, which will allow them to excel as great members of the Boston College community."

Ally Carman | 6'5 | Center | Barnegat, N.J. | Red Bank Catholic High School
A Top 100 and four-star recruit according to ESPN and the 19th-ranked player at her position ... ranked 113th according to Blue Star Basketball ... also played volleyball from 2014-2017... was named to the North Shore Conference All-Third team last season. ... played for the EYBL AAU team, Philly Rise.

Ally has great size and strength inside. Her athleticism, soft shooting touch and willingness to run the floor will add depth to our interior game. Her height allows her to play with her back to the basket and be a rim protector, while her soft shooting touch and IQ will allow her to be a playmaker when she faces up. Playing for a top high school in Red Bank Catholic and also a high-level EYBL AAU organization in Philly Rise, she knows how to win. I anticipate her to be a commanding presence on the court and develop into a dominant center for us.Â

Taina Mair | 5'9 | Guard | Boston, MA | Brooks School
The in-state native has put forth a stellar high school career ... she averaged at least 18 points, six assists, four rebounds, and three steals per game through the 2018-19 and 2019-20 seasons ... in 2018-19, she helped her team capture the NEPSAC D title ... earned NESPAC All-First Team honors and was named to the NEPSAC Class D All-Star game ... was named to the Lakes Region All-Region First Team and the Kingswood Oxford Invitational All-Tournament Team ... turned in 19 points, six rebounds and six assists per contest in '18-19 ... the following season, she led her team to a NEPSAC Class B championship and won the Ray Brown Holiday Tournament crown ... her averages of 18 points, eight rebounds, four assists, and three assists led to the NEPSAC Class B Player of the Year Honor and All-First Team recognition in 2019-20 ... named to the NEPSAC Class B and ISL All-Star games ... landed on the Ray Brown Holiday All-Tournament Team on top of being named the tournament MVP.

Taina is a true scoring point guard that loves to push the tempo. She plays with a flare and moxie that exudes confidence. Her outstanding court vision is complemented by her crafty quickness and smooth shot. Her unselfish demeanor and skill set allow her to create for herself and her teammates. As a local player for the highly competitive Brooks School and AAU Mass Rivals, she has had the opportunity to compete and excel at a high level. She takes pride in representing her home in Boston and taking BC to new heights. I am eager to watch her grow into our floor general.Â

Ava McGee | 5'10 | Guard | Washington, D.C. | Maret School
A four-year letterwinner at Maret ... was named a two-time DC All-State First-Team in 2018-19 and 2019-20 ... in 2018-19, she was named to the USA Today All-USA DC Second-Team ... made the '18-19 Washington Post All-Honorable Mention list ...she helped her team capture the 2018-19 ISL A Conference title  ... 2018-19 All-ISL A and All-ISL AA in 2019-20 ... played her travel ball with Maryland's Finest in 2018 and 19 and was on the Boo Williams EYBL squad in 2020 and 2021.

Ava excels in a fast-paced system and is a versatile scorer. She has a college-ready body with the strength and athleticism to be a dominant player on both ends of the floor. Her natural rebounding instincts and unselfish play are impressive. Excelling at the highest academic Maret School and Boo Williams EYBL AAU organization has allowed her to shine in the classroom and on the court at the highest level. She is a competitor that is used to winning. I am eager to see her grow as a player and expect her to be a solid contributor.Â

Kayla Lezama | 5'11 | Guard | Boston, Mass. | Noble & Greenough School
One of two in-state natives to commit to the Eagles ... a four-year letterwinner at Noble & Greenough School ... was named team captain going into this season ... turned in 14 points, seven rebounds, and seven assists per game in 2018-19 ... a 2018-19 Boston Globe All-Star ... also was named an ISL All-Star and a Boston Herald Prep School All-Star in '18-19 ... participated in the 2019 USA Basketball Trials (16U) ... played for the Boston Lady Stars from 2014-18 ... represented the New England Crusaders in the EYBL circuit in '18-19 and Exodus NYC the following season ... earned the Academic Distinction award in 2019-20 and 2020-21 ... was the Black Student Union Leader in 2020-21 ... also a four-year member of the Sister-2-Sister program.
Bernabei-McNamee on Lezama
Kayla is a competitor with good length for a guard and solid 3-point range. Growing up locally and playing at The Noble and Greenough School, she has a great base of fundamentals academically and athletically to go along with her winning mindset. She is strong and athletic with the ability to hit the three, shoot pull-up jump shots and finish at the basket. I am eager to see her grow as a player and expect her to be a contributor to the program.
