October 25, 2021 | Lacrosse
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Head Lacrosse Coach Acacia Walker-Weinstein has announced the signing of two members of the BC lacrosse team. Walker-Weinstein welcomes Lucy and Sophie Stiles through a partnership with Team IMPACT, whose mission is to improve the quality of life for children facing life-threatening and chronic illnesses through the power of team.
"We are so excited to be adding Lucy and Sophie to our program," said BC assistant coach Sam Apuzzo. "When we look at the Stiles family, we're not just bringing in Lucy and Sophie, we're bringing in your entire family and your entire extended family. And we're excited to bring in two more people and take our roster from 31 to 33!"
Lucy and Sophie were officially introduced outside of Conte Forum on Thursday afternoon, where each signed their letters of intent. In attendance were Lucy and Sophie's family, the BC lacrosse team and coaching staff.
"Lucy and Sophie were meant to be BC Eagles," said BC sophomore Annabelle Hasselbeck. "Their special relationship with one another is a true reflection of what it looks like to be a teammate on this team and we are so excited for the impact they will have on this team throughout the year and years to come!"
After signing, Lucy and Sophie were brought into the locker room and shown their own lockers.
"We are thrilled to be adding 31 sisters to the family for Sophie and Lucy," said Kristen Stiles, Lucy and Sophie's mother. "This sisterhood, our families and our extended families are something we are so excited to be a part of, and something we will always bring our wholehearted best selves to. We are all in and are dreaming big. And it is just the beginning!"
"Team IMPACT is honored to have Lucy, Sophie and the entire Stiles family join our community," said Ryan Irwin, Team IMPACT Executive Director, Northeast. "Their deep family ties to Boston College made this signing day even more special. Thank you to the coaches, student-athletes and the entire Boston College campus for making this event such a memorable moment for all. We are proud of our partnership with BC!"
About Team IMPACT
Team IMPACT is the only U.S. nonprofit that tackles the emotional trauma and social isolation experienced by children facing serious and chronic illnesses by matching them with a college athletic team. Our two-year therapeutic program complements a child's medical treatments, allowing the child to develop relationships and skills that help them complete the full circle of healing. Through participation in Team IMPACT's clinically informed program, children experience a true sense of belonging, resulting in increased empowerment, normalization, health promotion, and resilience. Families feel connected and supported as their child achieves individualized goals, while experiencing the joy of team camaraderie and inclusion; and student athletes gain perspective and inspiration, as well as lessons in adversity and resilience.
Founded in 2011, Team IMPACT has matched more than 2,200 children with 700+ colleges and universities in 49 states, impacting more than 60,000 student athletes.
Team IMPACT has more than 1,200 teams across the country waiting to be matched with children, ages 5-16, who have been diagnosed with a life-threatening or chronic illness and who could benefit from becoming a member of the team.
