No. 5 Tar Heels Top Eagles in Overtime

NEWTON, Mass. – The Boston College women's soccer team took fifth-ranked North Carolina to overtime on Sunday afternoon but the Tar Heels scored the golden goal late in the first overtime period to eke out a 2-1 win at the Newton Campus Soccer Field.
The game served as the second annual Pink Card Match for the Eagles. The team's pink warm-up jerseys will be auctioned here through Sunday, Oct. 17. The proceeds from the auction will support the Auerbach Breast Center at Mass General Brigham.
The Eagles carried the early play and then took a 1-0 lead in the 50th minute thanks to Sam Smith's fourth goal of the season. The Tar Heels, though, evened the score late in the half and then scored for the win in overtime.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- 50' | Working down the right flank, Jenna Bike sent a cross from outside the box into the center and from 10 yards out, Sam Smith was able to one-touch her finish inside the left post.
- 88' | After a corner kick was cleared towards the edge of the box, Emily Moxley lofted an arching shot towards the far post that Julia Dorsey tapped in.
- 98' | From just outside the box, Maggie Pierce stepped up to a loose ball and curled a shot back inside the far right post.
- UNC had the 15-11 lead in shots … the Tar Heels had an 8-4 advantage in corner kicks.
- The Eagles are now 1-21-0 in the all-time series with the Tar Heels … this was the 11th meeting in the 22-game series that was decided by on goal.
- Sam Smith tallied her fourth goal of the season … Jenna Bike earned her third assist … both Bike and Smith now have nine points each.
- Goalkeeper Wiebke Willebrandt finished with two saves for the Eagles.
- The Eagles will begin a three-game road trip with a 7 p.m. game at Louisville on Friday, Oct. 15.
