Parker Biele Places 18th in NCAA Giant Slalom

BOZEMAN, Mont. – Junior Parker Biele placed 18th overall in the women's giant slalom this week at the 2020 NCAA Skiing Championships at Bridger Bowl in Montana. Biele became the first female BC skier in program history to ski at the national championships.
Friday's slalom race was cancelled by the NCAA due to concerns over COVID-19.Â
"Parker competed the only way she knows how—110%," said head coach Chuck Carmome. "She had her goals for All-American status and came up a hair short of achieving it this year. A lot of things have to line up right with the race hill, conditions, start position, and conditions to get there. She won't make excuses but Parker now knows she can compete with the very best college athletes in the world on any given day.
"Regardless of how she views her performance, she's in the record books as the greatest BC skier ever and considering the impressive alumni that skied here, that's saying a lot," added Carmone. "I think we'll have some teammates with her next year now that she has blazed the path."
Biele was 15th overall after the first run following her time of 57.48 seconds. She clocked in at exactly 59.00 in her afternoon run for a combined time of 1:56.48 for 18th place to close her historic season on the slopes.
The Woodstock, Vermont native posted the highest EISA finish ever by a BC skier at the Colby Carnival on Maine's Sugarloaf Mountain, earning fourth place in the GS. Biele picked up her second straight top-10 a week later at Sunday River with sixth place in the GS at the Bates Carnival.
The Eagles' co-captain also placed fifth in the giant slalom two weeks ago at the U.S. Junior Nationals at Snowbasin in Utah.
