More team work highlighted Tuesday's two-hour practice
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Boston College finished its second practice of the spring Tuesday morning inside Fish Field House. The Eagles were on the field for two hours in just helmets.
Â
Much like the first practice on Saturday, fundamentals and installing the base packages on offense and defense highlighted the day on the field. The Eagles also did some team work for a couple of periods as both sides of the ball flashed.
Â
"The execution is important, but more of the standard on how we are running to the ball, how urgent we are getting lined up and how hard the guys are working are the most important things right now," Boston College head football coach Jeff Hafley said.
Â
With the new change in leadership in the football program, the opportunity for every player on the roster to make an impact is huge this spring.
Â
"These are the first times I have seen these guys live," Hafley continued. "They are all on a clean, blank slate for me. I have watched the film and trying to evaluate what they are doing now and each day and not what has happened in the past."
Â
News and Notes: One thing that was noticeable Tuesday was how fluid David Bailey looked as a receiver out of the backfield. He extended in the end zone for two, finger-tip receptions during individual periods of work as he was matched up against a linebacker … BC returns four starters on the offensive line and all four players started with the first team at the same position from last season (Tyler Vrabel, LT; Zion Johnson, LG; Alec Lindstrom, C; Ben Petrula, RT). The first lineman to get a crack with the first team was redshirt junior Nate Emer at right guard … in the secondary, the first group to start team periods included senior Mike Palmer and redshirt freshman Jalen Williams at safety along with junior Brandon Sebastian and sophomore Jason Maitre at corner … sophomore wide receiver Zay Flowers continued to create separation on his routes in the passing game … senior defensive end Brandon Barlow had a key TFL early in the team period … redshirt freshman running back Pat Garwo III showed a good burst on a run up the middle working with the second-team offense … sophomore defensive tackle Ryan Betro swatted away a pass as he rushed the quarterback working with the twos … Brandon Sebastian made one of the most acrobatic plays of the day with a tremendous pass breakup in coverage on Zay Flowers … sophomore wide receiver Jehlani Galloway went up for a terrific catch in traffic on a throw from redshirt freshman quarterback Daelen Menard … BC will return to the practice field on Thursday in just helmets. It will be the final practice prior to spring break for the Eagles.
