ACC Fencing Championships Day One Recap

The Eagles earned seven top-seven finishes while Rylie Rueda took third in the women's epee.
NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The Boston College fencing team kicked off the first day of the ACC Fencing Championships on Saturday at the Notre Dame Castellan Family Fencing Center with the individual competitions. Rylie Rueda led the Eagles with a silver medal in the women's epee while seven Eagles total finished in a top-seven spot for BC. Day two of the 16th ACC Fencing Championships will begin tomorrow at 7 a.m. with the first round of the men's team event.

Michael Corban and Aiden Banyon-Mrak fought to top-10 finishes in the men's epee, with Corban finishing seventh and Banyon-Mrak taking ninth. Thomas Junseo Park and Will Smith finished in 12th and 13th, respectively. In the men's foil, Bin Huang earned a fifth-place finish while Brian Wang also earned a top-10 spot in eighth. Justin Herman took 13th and Philip Acinapuro was 16th. Bolang Meng, who had a plus-11 touch differential, gave the BC men another strong finish with his sixth-place spit in men's sabre while BC also got top-15 finishes from Spencer Kuldell (11th), Ben Slavin (14th) and Connor Rounds (15th).

Rueda finished on the podium in women's epee, earning third after defeating Notre Dame's Dasha Yefremenko, 15-14, in the third-place fence-off. Also in women's epee, Christina Ko took sixth, Laura Boden finished 10th and Cosima Martus finished 11th. In the women's foil, Kate Devereaux took 12th place while Madison Lee (14th), Brooke Solsky (15th) and Samantha Davidson (16th) rounded out the Eagles finishes. Crystal Chen, who had a plus-14 touch differential, earned a seventh-place finish in the women's sabre while Katarina Hone was 12th. Additionally, Gillian Lawlor finished 14th and Mackenzie Lyon took 16th for BC.
