
ACC Announces 2020 Postgraduate Scholarship Recipients

GREENSBORO, N.C. - The Atlantic Coast Conference has announced its recipients of its 2020 Postgraduate Scholarship with Cat Balido of women's volleyball, Sean Burke of men's cross country and track and field, and Brigid Wood of field hockey earning the scholarship.
The student-athletes will be honored at the annual Cone Health ACC Postgraduate Scholarship Luncheon presented by ESPN on Wednesday, April 8. The luncheon will be hosted by the Nat Greene Kiwanis Club at the Sheraton Four Seasons Guilford Ballroom in Greensboro, North Carolina. BC alumnus Luke Kuechly, who recently retired from the NFL following an All-Pro career with the Carolina Panthers, will serve as the keynote speaker at the Luncheon, set for April 8.
Balido, a communications major, served as a captain on the volleyball team as a senior, while playing in 119 matches throughout her career. A native of Dallas, Texas, she totaled 989 kills throughout her career, which ranks 10th all-time at BC. As a senior, she started 23 matches, hitting 313 kills for 2.48 per set.
Burke '19, graduated with a degree in biochemistry, is a five-time All-ACC honoree with an all-region award in cross country in 2016 and is a second team All-American from 2019 in outdoor track and field. A native of Pleasanton, California, He holds the second-fastest indoor 5k time at BC with a 14:11.99, outdoor 5k time with a 13:59.61 and the third-best outdoor 10k time with a 29:04.51.
Wood is a marketing and operations management major, who has seen action in 81 games throughout her career. She has six-career goals and 12-career assists for 24 points, while serving as a captain her senior year. A native of Plains, Pennsylvania, Wood helped lead the Eagles to their first-ever ACC Championship game appearance and final four appearance.Â
The Weaver-James-Corrigan and Jim and Pat Thacker postgraduate scholarships are awarded to selected student-athletes who intend to pursue a graduate degree following completion of their undergraduate requirements. Each recipient will receive $6,000 toward his or her graduate education. Those honored have performed with distinction in both the classroom and their respective sport, while demonstrating exemplary conduct in the community.
