Freshman forward Gaby Roy has been named the Women’s Hockey Commissioners’ Association National Player of the Month.
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Boston College women's hockey freshman forward Gaby Roy has been named the Women's Hockey Commissioners' Association National Player of the Month, it was announced Thursday by the organization.
Â
In the month of November, Roy tied for the national lead in points with seven and also tied for the lead in goals with four. Roy was the only player to record a hat trick in the first two weeks of the season after scoring four goals in her collegiate debut against New Hampshire on Nov. 20. She finished the month with seven points on four goals and three assists, 12 shots on goal and a plus-6 rating.
Â
The Marshfield, Mass. native had at least one point in all of the Eagles' contests last month to kick off her collegiate career with a four-game point streak. After the four-goal debut, Roy has gone on to record an assist in each of BC's following games and her 1.75 points per game average is also tops in Hockey East. The freshman currently has a team and nation-leading seven points with her four goals and three assists.
Roy became the first first-year NCAA player to record a hat trick in their collegiate debut since Yale's Elle Hartje did it against LIU on Oct. 25, 2019. Roy is the first player, men's or women's, with four goals in their first collegiate game since at least the 2011-12 season and the first women's player to record four goals in the first game of the season since at least the 2011-12 season. It was the 12th four-goal game in program history and the fifth four-goal game by a first-year BC player and fourth in the last four years.
Â
Roy was named the Hockey East Player of the Week on Nov. 23 and was recognized on Monday as the league's Pro Ambitions Rookie of the Week.Â
