
Nine Eagles Earn All-ACC Football Accolades

Zay Flowers, Hunter Long and Alec Lindstrom collect first-team honors
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Nine members of the Boston College football team were named to the 2020 All-ACC football teams, the conference announced on Tuesday.

The 2020 All-ACC teams were selected by the league's head coaches and a select group of media members.

Three Eagles collected All-ACC first-team honors as sophomore wide receiver Zay Flowers, junior center Alec Lindstrom and junior tight end Hunter Long were named to the first team.

Junior linebacker Isaiah McDuffie and senior offensive guard Ben Petrula were named to the All-ACC second-team, senior offensive tackle Zion Johnson and senior linebacker Max Richardson earned All-ACC third-team honors while sophomore cornerback Josh DeBerry and sophomore offensive tackle Tyler Vrabel were named honorable mention All-ACC.

Flowers is just the second Boston College All-ACC first-team wide receiver in school history, joining Alex Amidon (2012). The Fort Lauderdale native was also named All-ACC honorable mention as an all-purpose selection.

Flowers collected All-ACC honors after one of the most productive seasons by a wide receiver in Boston College history. The Fort Lauderdale native is 14th nationally and second in the ACC with 892 yards receiving. He ranks 19th nationally with 56 receptions and is tied for 12th nationally with nine touchdown receptions.

Lindstrom becomes just the second Boston College center to garner All-ACC first-team honors, joining Andy Gallik (2014). One of the top-graded offensive linemen all season for the Eagles, Lindstrom now joins his brother Chris with All-ACC first-team honors in their career.

Lindstrom was one of three players to take all 785 offensive snaps this season. He was part of a unit that started all 11 games together and held up for the third-ranked passing attack in the ACC at 284.2 yards per game.

Long joined Ryan Purvis (2007) as the only All-ACC first-team tight ends in school history after his impressive junior campaign. A semifinalist for the John Mackey Award, Long leads all tight ends nationally with 57 receptions and ranks 17th nationally among all players.

The New Hampshire native leads tight ends nationally with 685 receiving yards.

He finished second in Boston College single-season history for receptions by a tight end, trailing only former Consensus All-America tight end Pete Mitchell's 66 receptions in 1993.

McDuffie collected All-ACC second-team accolades for the first time in his career. He led BC and ranked fourth in the nation with 107 tackles in 2020.

The Buffalo native had a career-best 16-tackle performance vs. No. 2 Notre Dame. The 16 tackles tied for second most by an ACC player all season.

He ended the season with double-digit tackle totals in seven games, including six of 10 ACC contests.

Petrula was named to the All-ACC second-team for the second time in his career after earning second-team accolades last season at offensive tackle. This season, the New Jersey native moved inside to offensive guard and proved to be one of the league's top interior offensive linemen.

Petrula played 778 of 785 offensive snaps (99.1%) on the season and was a key part of an offensive line that allowed just 2.55 sacks per game, which ranked sixth in the ACC.

Johnson was named to the All-ACC third-team at offensive tackle. The Maryland native graded out as BC's top offensive lineman in 2020 after moving from left guard to left tackle in the preseason. BC's offensive line ranked No. 21 as a group according to Pro Football Focus this season.

Richardson was named to the All-ACC third-team defense at linebacker. He finished second on the team and fourth in the ACC with 99 tackles. Richardson posted a team-leading 8.0 TFL, including career-best 3.5 sacks in 2020. He finished with double-digit tackle totals in five of 10 ACC games.

DeBerry earned All-ACC honorable mention honors for the first time in his career. The sophomore played 592 defensive snaps (76.7%) at corner or nickel. He was second on the team with six pass breakups and third with 44 tackles. One of the most disruptive defensive backs in the ACC, DeBerry added two forced fumbles, one fumble recovery and one interception on the season.

Vrabel was named All-ACC honorable mention for the second time in his career. He moved from left tackle, where he started 13 games in 2019, to right tackle in 2020. Vrabel was one of three players to take all 785 offensive snaps this season as he started all 11 games for the Eagles.
