Allyson Swaby '18 and Jamaica are coming off their first ever FIFA Women’s World Cup appearance at France 2019
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Boston College women's soccer alumna Allyson Swaby '18 and the Jamaica National Women's Soccer Team are set to kick off the 2020 Concacaf Women's Olympic Qualifying Championship on Wednesday, when they take on Mexico at 8 p.m. at HEB Park in Edinburg, Texas. Jamaica, Mexico, Canada and Saint Kitts and Nevis make up Group B while the United States, Haiti, Panama and Costa Rica comprise Group A.
This marks Jamaica's third appearance in the Concacaf Olympic qualifying tournament. Swaby was a member of the Reggae Girlz squad that became the first-ever Caribbean nation to play in the FIFA Women's World Cup this past summer in France.
Swaby, who plays for AS Roma Women, started all three group matches in France and played all 270 minutes for Jamaica. In her time on the Heights, she appeared in 72 games across four seasons for the Eagles, scoring two goals and three assists on nine shots out of the back line. She missed only three games in the ACC over four years in her career as a staple for BC, and she earned the team's co-captaincy during her senior year in 2017, a season in which she played over 1,800 minutes.
In addition to Wednesday's game against Mexico, Jamaica will also face Canada on Saturday, Feb. 1 and Saint Kitts and Nevis on Tuesday, Feb. 4 to round out group play. FS2 will broadcast the match between Mexico and Jamaica. All of Jamaica's contests will stream on FS2 or Fox Sports Plus
