Lopez Lifts Eagles Over Harvard 4-3
January 24, 2020 | Women's Tennis
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – As she did throughout her rookie season, sophomore Laura Lopez came up clutch in singles for Boston College as she clinched a 4-3 road victory over Harvard on Friday night at the Murr Center.
The Eagles remained undefeated in the spring at 4-0, while the Crimson fell to 1-1.
Lopez pulled out her No. 5 singles matchup against Natasha Gonzalez by a score of 7-5, 6-7, 6-2 for the deciding point. It was the only singles match of the night that went to a third set.
"This was a great college tennis match," said head coach Nigel Bentley. "There was lots of energy in the building and our team responded really well. So many of these matches come down to a few points and I thought our team was very resilient in crunch time. This was a solid road win for us, I'm very proud of our effort tonight."
Junior Natasha Irani (7-5, 6-3) and senior Elene Tsokilauri (6-3, 6-3) posted straight set victories in third and sixth singles as part of undefeated nights for both players.
BC began the match by winning the doubles point following victories by Irani/Yufei Long and Lopez/Tsokilauri.
The Eagles host Fordham and Rhode Island in a doubleheader on Sunday (Jan. 26) beginning at 10 a.m. at the Connell Center.Â
