Eagles Begin 2020 Carnival Season at Waterville Valley

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – The Boston College ski team travels to Waterville Valley in New Hampshire this weekend to open the 2020 season at the Harvard Carnival. This will be the first of six carnivals on the EISA circuit. The Harvard Carnival opens on Friday (Jan. 17) with the giant slalom and continues on Saturday (Jan. 18) with the slalom.Â

Friday (Jan. 17), 9 a.m. • Women's Giant Slalom, followed by Men's Giant Slalom (alternating runs)
Saturday (Jan. 18), 9 a.m. • Men's Slalom, followed by Women's Slalom (alternating runs)

Friday's giant slalom competition will be available to view live online via ESPN+ which can be accessed for a subscription of $4.99 per month.Â

NEW HEAD COACH
Chuck Carmone was hired as the head coach of the BC ski team in November of 2019. He brings over 30 years of ski race coaching experience to the program. Carmone has coached at Mt. Hood for PSSI Ski Camps, the Cross M Ski Team, Lake Tahoe and Ski Ward, Shrewsbury. He was the camp director at Mt. Abrams, Maine with USST coaching legends Tom Reynolds and Tim Lavallee, and worked with Tom Barbeau and Jim Cardenalli ski clinics at Belleayre.

Carmone also helped coach his son's Xaverian ski team to win two Massachusetts state titles in 2013 and 2016. In addition, his teams won nine league titles. He has also served as a USSA Chief of Race and Chief of Course for the BBTS race program at Waterville Valley. Carmone was co-captain of the University of Nevada, Reno ski team and a four-year varsity member.
2019 IN REVIEW
The BC alpine teams closed the 2019 season with a pair of top-30 finishes at the EISA Championships, which were contested at the Bates Carnival at Sunday River. Trent Gutstein was the top men's finisher in the slalom on Saturday with 26th overall after skiing a time of 1:58.22, roughly seven seconds off the pace. Parker Biele led the women's team with her second top-30 finish of the weekend, taking 28th in the slalom with a combined time of 2:03.15.
UP NEXT
After the Harvard Carnival, the Eagles continue to the UVM Carnival next weekend on Jan. 24-25Â in Stowe, Vermont.
