History Against the Opponents
Boston College faces a familiar foe in Providence, who they haven't lost to since Head Coach Kelly Doton has taken over at BC. The Eagles have won 16 of their last 18 games against the Friars.
On the other hand, Fairfield is a team BC has only faced off with twice in program history. Most recently, BC defeated the Stags last season, 3-0, while the Eagles won the only other matchup in 2004, 3-0.
Season-Opening Success
BC field hockey has won their last 11 season-opening games and every one under Doton. The Eagles' last loss came in 2007 at Stanford in a 2-1 defeat. In those season-openers, BC is outscoring their opponents 45-6.
Back for More
Although BC loses its top three scorers from 2018, they return their next four leading scorers. Elizabeth Warner (12 points), Fusine Govaert (11), Brigid Wood (10) and Jaime Natale (9) look to take the next step for the Eagles and lead a young BC team in 2019.
Newcomers
The Eagles have eight total freshmen on the roster starting the 2019 campaign. The class is its largest since the 2015, when the team had seven first-year players.
ACC Preseason Poll
Of the seven ACC teams, BC was picked to come in sixth by the conference coaches. UNC led the way with 48 points and six first-place votes and was followed by Duke with 43 points and one first-place vote. The eagles notched 17 points and just edged Wake Forest, who had 16.
Lucky Number 13
BC field hockey comes into 2019 ranked 13th in the country in the Penn Monto/NFHCA Coaches' Poll. This the second-consecutive season the Eagles have entered the season ranked 13th. On another note, every ACC school is ranked inside the top-20, cementing its place as the top field hockey conference in the country.
