CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. — Sean Burke will race in the 10,000m final on Wednesday, June 5 at the 2019 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championship. The national championship will be held at Mike A. Myers Stadium on the campus of the University of Texas in Austin.
The 10K is slated to start at 10:08 p.m. ET (9:08 p.m. local time) and the race will be shown live on ESPN2, as the network begins continuing coverage of the opening day of competition at 7:30 p.m. ET.
"Sean has earned his spot among the best in the nation after arguably the finest distance year in Boston College track & field history," said head coach Matt Kerr. "At every stage, Sean has been willing to put in the work and to risk when it counts. On our biggest stage, we expect nothing less and we are ready to tackle the competition head-on in Austin. "
Burke earned his spot in the 24-person field by virtue of his 10th place finish at the NCAA East Preliminary round on Thursday, May 23. The Pleasanton, Calif. native clocked 29:04.51 to become the first Boston College student-athlete to qualify for the national championship meet in two decades. Burke is the first BC runner in over 30 years to compete in the 10K at the NCAA Championship. Jose Rocha placed fourth (29:20.95) at the 1987 NCAA Championship held in Baton Rouge, La., earning All-America honors.
