Dempsey Arsenault and Elizabeth Miller join Sam Apuzzo on the All-ACC Academic Team
GREENSBORO, N.C. – For the second consecutive year, Boston College senior Sam Apuzzo has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Women's Lacrosse Scholar-Athlete of the Year while teammates Elizabeth Miller and Dempsey Arsenault join Apuzzo on the All-ACC Academic Team, as announced Thursday by the league office. This is the third consecutive year that Miller, Arsenault and Apuzzo have been named to the All-ACC Academic Team.
Â
Miller, four-year starter for the Eagles, was a two-time Tewaaraton nominee and a three-time All-America selection over her career. She headed the defense while balancing a key role on the draw circle, winning control of 79 draws over the season. Arsenault was the second-best goal producer on the team, playing a crucial balance between offense and defense for the Eagles over their 22-2 overall season. Arsenault totaled 92 points on the season while picking up a team-high 45 ground balls and winning a solid 100 draw controls. Apuzzo had another standout season in her collegiate finale, putting up 94 goals and 30 assists for 124 points on the year and earning her second straight ACC Attacker of the Year title.
Â
The ACC Scholar-Athlete of the Year awards were established in September 2007 to be awarded annually to the top junior or senior student-athlete in their respective sports.
Â
Minimum academic requirements for selection to the All-ACC Academic Team are a 3.0 grade point average for the previous semester and a 3.0 cumulative average during one's academic career. Athletic achievements during the most recent season are also considered in selecting the All-ACC Academic Team.
Â
The ACC Honor Roll, which recognizes all conference student-athletes with a grade point average of 3.0 for the current academic year, will be released in July.
