No. 42 Eagles Fall to No. 24 Florida in NCAA First Round

LAWRENCE, Kan. – No. 42 Boston College dropped a 4-1 final to 24th-ranked Florida on Friday morning in the first round of the NCAA Tournament at the Jayhawk Tennis Center in Kansas. The Eagles closed their magical season with a 16-11 record, while the Gators improved to 13-11.
In her final collegiate match, senior captain Jackie Urbinati sealed BC's lone point with a straight set victory over Victoria Emma in No. 3 singles. The 51st-ranked pair of Urbinati and Kylie Wilcox nearly picked up their eighth straight doubles victory, but the duo's match against No. 25 McCartney Kessler and Emma went unfinished while leading 5-3.Â
Florida won the doubles point for a 1-0 lead with 6-1 victories at the No. 2 and 3 slots from Ida Jarlskog/Tsveta Dimitrova and Marlee Zein/Sydney Berlin.
The Gators doubled their lead to 2-0 at No. 1 singles as No. 15Â Jarlskog defeated No. 70 Yufei Long in straight sets. No. 117 Wilcox then fell to No. 30 Kessler 6-3, 6-3 in the No. 2 slot as UF extended its cushion to 3-0.
Urbinati pulled a point back for the Eagles when she swept past Emma, the daughter of former Boston College men's hockey standout David Emma, by a 6-2, 6-2 final on court three.
Florida clinched the match at No. 6 singles as Sydney Berlin held off rookie Laura Lopez 6-3, 6-2. Natasha Irani and Elene Tsokilauri were each down a set at the time in the No. 4 and 5 slots, though Tsokilauri led her second set 4-2 against Tsveta Dimitrova.
Boston College was making its first NCAA appearance since 1997 and just its second in school history. BC's 16 wins this season were its highest total in two decades.Â
