Cotton Recognized as Second Team All-American
April 12, 2019 | Men's Hockey
BUFFALO – Boston College captain David Cotton was honored as a CCM Second Team All-American on Friday night at the Frozen Four by the American Hockey Coaches Association (AHCA). Cotton is the Eagles' first All-American since Ryan Fitzgerald and Thatcher Demko earned the honor in 2016 and the 71st All-America selection in program history.
Â
Cotton was voted the 2019-20 team captain earlier this week as he enters his senior season. He was named a First Team Hockey East All-Star as a junior and became the first Eagle to earn the accolade since Fitzgerald and Demko, also in 2016. The Parker, Texas native was also one of 14 players named to the New England Division I All-Star Team and won the Paul Hines Award as the most improved player.
Cotton finished the regular season atop the Hockey East leaderboard with 20 goals, four more than Alexander Payusov (UConn), Mitchell Chaffee (UMass), and Chase Pearson (Maine). He added three more in the postseason, including two during the Hockey East Championship weekend at TD Garden, for a career-high 23 to close the season.
Cotton also led Hockey East with eight power play goals this past season. Nationally, he was sixth in the country in goals per game and tied for 20th in power play goals. The forward was 11th in Hockey East with eight multi-point games, ninth in points per game, and fifth in shots on goal per game during the regular season.
The rising junior set a new career-high with his 29th point on Feb. 23, edging his sophomore total (9-19-28). He enters his final season at Boston College just 12 points shy of 100 in 116 career games.Â
