Clermont, Smith Compete for Team USA at 2019 IAAF World XC Championship

BC duo races in the sports biggest stage in Aarhis, Denmark
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. — Nicole Clermont and Kayla Smith raced in the Under-20 women's race at the 2019 IAAF/Mikkeller World Cross Country Championship on Saturday in Aarhus, Denmark.
Clermont placed 70th overall in a time of 24:07 for the 5,740m course, while Smith finished close behind in 75th place, crossing the line in 24:15. Clermont was the United States' third finisher, while Smith was the fifth and final scorer.
The BC duo earned their spots on Team USA after a 1-2 finish at the USATF Junior Cross Country Championship on Feb. 2 in Tallahassee, Fla. Clermont covered the 6,000m course in a time of 21:14, followed close behind by Smith in 21:18.2. Â
Additionally, former BC All-America standout Liv Westphal placed 22nd overall in the senior women's race for France. She registered a time of 38:18 for the 10,025m course.  Westphal - the 2016 Eagle of the Year - captured the French national championship earlier this month in Vittel, France.
