BOSTON – Boston College women's soccer junior Olivia Vaughn and rowing graduate student Megan Lydon attended the Boston City Council Meeting on Wednesday, Feb. 6 in honor of National Girls & Women in Sports Day.
Â
At the meeting, councilor Annissa Essaibi-George introduced a Resolution to the members of the Boston City Council asking to recognize Feb. 6, 2019 as Nationals Girls and Women in Sports Day (NGWSD). Lydon and Vaughn represented Boston College among the other student-athletes and coaches from the city's colleges and Boston Public School system that were invited to attend the meeting and participate in the recognition.
Â
NGWSD began in 1987 when the Women Sport Foundation sought to bring awareness to the athletic achievements of girls and women in sports across the country. In her resolution, Essaibi-George wrote "Sports provides a platform for young women to build confidence, teamwork, and leadership and can play a crucial role in the quality of their education."
