The senior captain put up 12 points on five goals and seven assists in the month of January
WAKEFIELD, Mass. – Boston College women's hockey senior Megan Keller has been named the Hockey East Player of the Month, as announced Tuesday by the league.
Keller put up 12 points on five goals and seven assists in the month of January, which tied for the league lead and was tops nationally among blue liners. Keller, whose 12 points placed her fifth in the country, registered at least one point in all seven of BC's January contests and had multiple points in three of them. Keller set the Hockey East single-season points record by a defenseman against Providence on Jan. 25 and has extended the record with a 13-16-29 scoring line. Two of her goals in the month were game-winners, tied for tops in the league.
No other player in the nation was on the ice for more goals scored in the month of January than Keller (19) while her plus-14 rating was second overall. She was on the ice for 71 percent of BC's even-strength goals in the month and on the year has been on the ice for 54 percent.
The captain leads all defenders nationally or is tied for first in goals (14), assists (20), points (34), goals per game (0.52), points per game (1.26), power-play goals (5) and game-winning goals (4). Among all skaters in the country, Keller ranks in the top 15 in points, goals, assists, power-play points and points per game and is tied for the national lead in power-play goals. She has 91 shots on goal and is averaging 3.37 shots on goal per game, with both of those numbers ranking fourth and third, respectively, among blue liners.
The Farmington Hills, Mich. native also had 12 blocked shots and 22 shots on goal in helping the Eagles go 5-2-0 in January. Five of her two goals scored were game-winners and she now has nine in her career, which ties for 12th in program history.
This is the first time a defenseman has been named Player of the Month since Keller took home the honor for February 2017.
