Three Eagles Get The Call From National Teams
The Boston College women's soccer team has three players training with their respective national teams this week. Defender Rachel Newborough is with Ireland, while incoming freshman Michela Agresti is with the Under-20 National team in La Manga, Spain. Former Eagle defender Allyson Swaby is with Jamaica to train for two friendly matches over the next two weeks.
Newborough will join the Ireland International team roster for the Alanya Gold City Women's Cup 2019 in Turkey. The tournament will run from Feb. 27 through March 6.
Newborough and her Northern Ireland team will play Jordan on Wednesday, Feb. 27, followed by France B on Friday, March 1. On Sunday, March 3, Northern Ireland is schedule to play Kazakhstan. The placement matches will take place on Tuesday m March 5.
A defender, Newborough has 18 caps with Northern Ireland. Her debut was against the Czech Republic on June 7, 2016. This past season for BC, Newborough played in 15 games with eight starts. She played both defense as well as midfield this past season.
Agresti, a native of Swampscott, is one of five players to join the program in 2019. She is on the 20-player roster for a tournament in Spain.
The US will play Germany on March 1, followed by a match against France on March 3. The final game for the squad will be against Sweden on March 7. This tournament is training with the goal of qualifying for the 2020 FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup.
In November, Michela Agresti was with the Under-17 team in Uruguay for the 2018 Women's World Cup.
Swaby, who played at BC from 2014-17, is with the Jamaican Women's National Team in training from Feb. 25-March 4.
A native of West Hartford, Conn., Swaby and her Jamaican team is scheduled to two friendly matches vs. Chile on Feb. 28 at the National Stadium on Feb. 28 and March 3 at the Catherine Hall Sports Complex, in Mobay.
