Lyons, Thornton Named Eagles of the Week

Julia Lyons of women's track and field and Derryck Thornton of men's basketball have been named the Musco Lighting Eagles of the Week.

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Julia Lyons and Derryck Thornton have been named the Musco Lighting Eagles of the Week for their performances this past weekend.

In the women's track and field team's first meet of the year, Lyons placed second in the long jump at the Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener at Boston University. The Lafayette, Calif. native used a mark of 18'9" (5.71 meters) in earning the second podium spot and the highest finish on the day for the Eagles. Lyons also earned sixth place in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.91.

Thornton averaged 15.0 points, 2.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists, and 2.5 steals for the men's basketball team last week, including a 19-point, four-assist, two-steal outing in BC's win at Notre Dame. The graduate student made 9-of-12 shots from the floor in the 73-72 win – BC's first in South Bend since Jan. 11, 1997. The Los Angeles, Calif. native connected on close to 60% from the floor (13-22) over the two games for the Eagles.
