Three Eagles Tabbed NFHCA All-Americans
December 10, 2019 | Field Hockey
GILBERT, Ariz. – After an unprecedented season, the Boston College field hockey team had three named to the NFHCA All-America first team, including freshman Margo Carlin, junior Fusine Govaert and senior Sarah Dwyer.
Â
There were 48 total selections across the three teams, while BC tied with Princeton, Louisville and North Carolina for the most selections with three. BC was the only school with three first-team members, though.
Â
This is the most All-Americans BC has had in a single year and the first time the Eagles have had multiple first-team members.
Â
Carlin led BC in scoring as a freshman and climbed up the single season record books. She scored the fourth-most goals in a single season at BC with 20 and put up the fourth-most points in a season with 46. The Drexel Hill, Pennsylvania native was named the ACC Freshman of the Year and a member of the All-ACC first team. She finished the season second in the conference in both goals and points.
Â
Dwyer was one of the best goalkeepers in the country, posting a 1.13 GAA and a 0.760 save percentage for an 11-4 record. Dwyer's GAA is tied for the third-best in a single season in program history, while she also had eight shutouts, which is also tied for third in a single season. A native of West Long Branch, New Jersey, Dwyer was named to the ACC All-Tournament team after being the first goalie to record shutouts in the first round and semifinals to make the conference championship.
Â
Govaert had her best season yet at BC, posting career-highs in goals (8), assists (8) and points (24). BC's biggest scoring threat on corners, five of her eight goals were game-winners. From Rye, New York, Govaert was an All-ACC first team member and an ACC All-Tournament team member. She scored the game-winning goal in overtime against Virginia in the ACC Semifinals to send BC to its first ACC Championship game in program history.
Â
All three were also NFHCA All-Northeast Region first team members.
